Cameras in the area recorded the animal’s movements, and experts have verified that it was indeed a wolf from the eastern Lower Saxony population.
Although rare, wolves occasionally travel long distances through urban zones while searching for new territory. Police received several calls from residents, but there was no threat to the public — the animal showed no aggression and likely moved on.
Authorities have asked citizens to remain calm and report any new sightings without approaching the animal. Environmental specialists are tracking its route to determine which pack it may belong to.
This is the second confirmed wolf sighting in the Hanover region within three months. Experts see it as a positive sign of the species’ recovery in northern Germany and a healthy ecosystem.
