According to the Essen police, the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. between the Rüttenscheid and Huttrop exits. Both vehicles were badly damaged, and two people — the Dacia driver and a female passenger from the Porsche — were taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and paramedics, responded quickly and completely closed the A52 in the direction of Essen. Due to leaking oil and debris scattered across the road, the motorway remained blocked for around five hours.
Cleanup crews worked overnight to clear the scene and check the asphalt for safety. The highway was finally reopened at around 1:30 a.m. on November 10.
Preliminary investigations suggest that excessive speed may have played a role in the crash. Police have asked any witnesses to come forward with information.
The accident reignited discussions in North Rhine-Westphalia about speed limits and traffic safety on German highways.
