From October 17 to November 2, 2025, Bremen will once again turn into a city of celebration as the Freimarkt – Germany’s oldest funfair – returns. For over a thousand years, this beloved tradition has brought joy, color, and excitement to millions, combining nostalgia with modern attractions and a unique northern German atmosphere.
The heart of the festivities is the Bürgerweide, a vast fairground near the central station. Here visitors can enjoy countless rides, a Ferris wheel, live shows, music stages, and endless food stalls. From roasted almonds and pretzels to local specialties and Bremen beer – the Freimarkt celebrates both taste and tradition.
One of the highlights is the Freimarktsumzug, the traditional parade that will take place on October 25, 2025. More than 100 decorated floats, marching bands, and dance groups will fill Bremen’s streets with color and energy, watched by thousands of cheering spectators.
A special new feature in 2025 will be the “Nordlichter Erlebniswelt” – the “Northern Lights Experience.” Inspired by Nordic myths and digital art, it combines light projections, 3D mapping, and music in a spectacular visual show.
Visitors seeking a more intimate experience can enjoy the Kleiner Freimarkt at the Market Square, offering traditional crafts, handmade sweets, and live folk performances in the romantic atmosphere of the historic city center.
Freimarkt 2025 continues to go green: powered by renewable energy, featuring biodegradable packaging, and introducing improved recycling systems – sustainability is now part of the celebration.
Admission is free, and for Bremen’s residents, the Freimarkt is far more than just a fair – it’s a living symbol of the city’s culture, joy, and community spirit.
