Arrest video in Paris prompts police investigation
An investigation has been launched in Paris after a video circulated on social media showing police officers striking a man during an arrest.
The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that the case has been referred to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), the body responsible for investigating potential misconduct by police officers.
According to the person who posted the video, the incident may have taken place on January 19, 2026, in the 10th district of Paris, near Rue Bichat. The footage shows several police officers wearing helmets and carrying batons and shields as they detain a man next to a police vehicle with flashing lights.
In the video, the man appears to receive several baton strikes before being pushed against the hood of the vehicle. He later manages to run away from the scene and disappears from the frame.
Authorities say that the origin of the video and the circumstances surrounding the arrest still need to be clarified. The officers involved are currently being identified.
The investigation aims to determine the exact sequence of events and whether the actions of the officers were in line with French policing regulations.
