Wiener Linien: Bonuses for catching fare dodgers
Media have revealed that Wiener Linien staff responsible for fare inspections receive a bonus of up to €18.25 for each fare evader they catch.
According to the company, this system motivates employees to increase the efficiency of inspections and reduces the number of violations. In 2024, the number of fare evasion cases decreased by 7%.
However, representatives of public organisations have expressed concerns that such a practice could lead to excessive strictness during inspections. Wiener Linien management assures that all actions of inspectors are strictly regulated.
